She started her career as a skilled voice-over artist, and did multiple radio spots for MTV and CBS Records. In the ‘80’s she landed a role in the NBC primetime comedy sketch “The New Show,” however, her performance went largely noticed. This triggered her to focus more on voice acting, doing which she would later make her breakthrough behind the curtains.
In the years that followed, Wheeler was hired to work for the well-known animation corporation Rankin/Bass. She voiced all the female superhero characters in the cartoon “Silverhawks,” and in addition,voiced multiple roles, both male and female in the series “The Comic Strip.”
In 1990, Maggie decided to change her career field to focus more on TV shows. She landed roles as Paula in “L.A. Law”, and “Dream On” in which she played Bonnie. Maggie’s big break came in 1992, when she made an appearance as Cynthia in the hit series “Seinfeld”.
Her performance in the movie “New Year’s Day” saw her rewarded with the Best Actor Award in a comedy festival held in Las Vegas, and the movie was also selected to represent the US at the Venice Film Festival. Following this success, Maggie had the honor of being invited as a guest onto “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.”
After attaining popularity and making appearances in several films, Wheeler was selected for the role of Janice in “Friends.” What began as a single episode appearance as a guest turned into a 10-season recurring role in the series that made television history, and is best known for her role in this show.
Since then, she has appeared in many shows such as “Shameless,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Californication,” “How I Met Your Mother,” Disney’s “Shake It Up,” “Without a Trace,” and many more.
Apart from acting, Maggie is the director of the Golden Bridge Community Choir that is based in Hollywood. The 14 years-old choir has given her a chance to educate aspiring musicians, while interacting more with the community. She has recorded several hits, including “Sweet Time,” “Walk With Me,” and “Michael Row The Boat,” among others.
