Ludacris and Pharrell are both facing some creative legal battles.
Chicago rapper Marvo is accusing Luda of stealing his original concept for the sensual single “Sex Room” featuring Trey Songz, according to TMZ. Marvo claims that after developing the song with producer Kajun, the “Southern Hospitality” rapper released the final version a year later, retaining most of the original lyrics. He wouldn’t reveal how much he’s suing Luda and Trey for.
While the Fast and the Furious star deals with potential lyrical plagiarism, Will.i.Am is allegedly suing Pharrell Williams over the use of ‘I Am’ in Skateboard P’s brand name i am OTHER for being “confusingly similar.”
The Black Eyed Peas front man said, “the registration of the mark…is likely to dilute the I AM mark and the will.i.am mark,” when comparing the two.
Luda has yet to comment on the allegations but Pharrell isn’t hiding his feelings about how William chose to handle the situation.
“I am disappointed that will, a fellow artist, would file a case against me,” he told Rolling Stone. “I am someone who likes to talk things out and, in fact, I attempted to do just that on many occasions.
“I am surprised in how this is being handled and I am confident that will’s trademark claims will ultimately be found to be as meritless and ridiculous as I [find them].” —Alley Olivier
